It Sucks When...

...it's windy and freezing cold. The whole crew is sipping hot chocolate and soup from crafty while huddled around the heaters. Meanwhile, you're stuck in a condor 60 feet in the air.

It shouldn't be too bad down there in LA try it up here in Canada. That is a little cold. 23 degrees Fahrenheit plus windchill. You need a lot of layers, a big tarp, a furnie pad, and a good heater to make it through the night. I spent almost six weeks of nights on a show like that. If you have an iPhone and some good games it really helps the time go by. Nothing like a condor call to make you wonder what the hell you are doing with your life

Anonymous - While it may be a bit more chilly up there in Canada, to me, shivering cold is shivering cold. Although, I do agree that there's nothing like condor duty in winter to make you question your career choices.

I love how no one thinks it gets cold in L.A....It's not all sun-tanning and margaritas...damn I hate generalizations. I've shot in many places all over the world and I can tell you that the coldest I've ever been and the hottest I've ever been are right here in beautiful southern california...imagine that...I'm not saying it doesn't get cold in Cananda, but don't underestimate Lancaster, Ca in the winter.

Admittedly, it does get cold in a large part of California, but I've spent time in LA in all of the seasons and it doesn't seem to drop below 32 very often. I didn't mean to generalize and yes cold is cold but 5 inches of ice on the puddles at crew park and a breeze of the river and it is pretty damn cold. And not to say that it is only cold in Canada, I'd hate to do a condor call in Minnesota or Colorado as well. Either way, I'm glad to be at the point in my career where those calls are few and far between. Nothing like humping gear on the ground to keep you warm.

It's all subjective. I can't tell you how many folks from colder climates come to work in LA and laugh at all us Californians layering up when they're still in t-shirts and shorts. But come spring and summer, while we're enjoying the nice sunshine, they're sweating more than a whore in church.
